NIGERIAN INTERNATIONAL RESCUES HULL CITY

Hull 1 - Nottingham Forest 1: Sone Aluko rescues Tigers' promotion push

SONE Aluko came off the bench to help prevent Hull's promotion jitters from developing into a full-blown crisis as Gary Gardner's goal of the season contender brought some welcome respite for crisis club Nottingham Forest.

Steve Bruce's led the division by two points just a month ago, but Gardner's first-half thunderbolt threatened to make it five games without a win for the Tigers.
Aluko's first goal since August ensured Hull enjoyed a share of the spoils, to see them trail table-topping Burnley by eight points ahead of Friday's crunch trip to top two rivals Middlesbrough.
Hull pushed managerless Forest back for long spells, but not for the first time in recent weeks, they lacked a cutting edge as Gardner put them on the verge of securing another season of Championship football.
The former European Champions had enjoyed a far from ideal preparation, the club's out-spoken owner Fawaz Al Hasawi yesterday (TUE) revealing he is willing to sell the club just 48 hours after launching the search for the eighth manager of his turbulent four-year reign following the sacking of Dougie Freedman.
With former Derby defender Paul Williams in caretaker charge for the end of the season, Forest's players put the off-the-field issues aside as Gardner broke the deadlock with a stunning 28th-minute strike which was totally out of keeping with most of what had gone before. The visitors recovered from a shaky start to take the lead after being fortunate not to fall behind when Abel Hernandez saw a low shot hit the post from a Robert Snodgrass pass, Mo Diame's follow-up well saved by Dorus De Vries.
