Blanc: There WILL be goals
Laurent Blanc has predicted an exciting game at the Etihad as both sides battle for a place in Friday’s last four draw.
The team who goes through will be the one who concedes the least because there will be goals. They have a bit of an advantage. We are going to have to be good at everything.People said we didn’t play a great game but we still scored two. Yes, we missed chances but we still scored two. We need to score again tomorrow. We will have to be outstanding in all areas to go through. We need to be a little bit more effective and efficient.”
City need to tighten up
City can book their spot in the semi-finals with a goalless draw tonight.
Away goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Fernandinho at the Parc des Princes last week puts Manuel Pellegrini’s men in the driving seat.
However, City have struggled for shut-outs compared to their Champions League rivals.
PSG stars take stroll in the City
Paris-Saint Germain’s star players took a stroll through a gloomy Manchester on Tuesday as they enjoyed some downtime ahead of the crunch Champions League clash with City.
The Ligue 1 winners know they must score or face elimination from the competition after last week’s 2-2 draw at the Parc des Princes.
Talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic was snapped chatting to goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu, while Edinson Cavani and Angel Di Maria walked alongside each other.
Boss Laurent Blanc, clad in a club tracksuit, looked relaxed as he walked with his team near the Lowry Hotel.
History favours City to go through
While we’re waiting for the team news to filter through, here’s some stuff to get your teeth into.
Manchester City will make it through to the Champions League semi-finals according to recent history.
Well over 80 per cent of the competition’s knockout matches which finished 2-2 in the first leg saw the team who played away in that first leg progress to the next round.
There have been 11 ties that ended in a two-all draw in the first leg since the European Cup became the Champions League in the 1992-93 campaign.
Nine of those ties saw the team who were away in the first leg go through to the next round, meaning that just two ties saw the team who were at home in the first leg go through. That’s great news for City, who were the away side in the first leg against PSG.
