Nick Blackwell has been placed in an induced coma after suffering a bleed to his brain while taking a beating from Chris Eubank Jnr.
Eubank Jnr dominated the fight until it was stopped in the 10th round when referee Victor Loughlin called on the doctor to look at Blackwell's swollen left eye.
The fight was called off before the beaten British champion collapsed after the result had been read out and was attended to by paramedics before being taken to hospital.
But the early indications on Sunday were encouraging with Blackwell reported to be stable and not in need of surgery.
Peter Fury, Tyson Fury's uncle and trainer, wrote on Twitter: 'All signs looking great; just heard from Mick (Henessey - Blackwell's promoter). Pray he's going to be alright. After speaking with Mick I'm sure he will.'
Eubank also took to Twitter to wish Blackwell a quick and full recovery.
'An awesome fight to be a part of last night. Two warriors putting it all on the line, this is what boxing is all about,' Eubank wrote. 'Now I've earned the privilege to be called 'The British Champ'. Unfortunately Nick is now in an induced coma... my thoughts & prayers go out to his family & friends.
'He's a true fighter & I whole heartedly believe he will pull through. Appreciate everyone that came out to support the fight #TeamEubank.'
Earlier, the British Boxing Board of Control's general secretary Robert Smith said: 'I spoke to one of the doctors this morning and he said there is a bleeding of the brain.
'He's in intensive care, he's in an induced coma and he is resting and being looked after by the experts. It's a very normal procedure. They put you in a coma to get the swelling to go down. There's no time-scale. Now it's just a matter of waiting and seeing.'
World heavyweight champion Tyson Fury tweeted: 'Will u (sic) all pray for Nick Blackwell please ASAP as he has been taken to hospital, God be with him'.
Eubank landed eye-catching punches from the off and found it easy to evade Blackwell, who as the fight went on looked more and more like he would need a knock-out to retain his belt. But that never looked forthcoming.
