Newcastle are expected to spend big once again in the summer if they avoid relegation.
And The Guardian claim a £30m offer for Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge could be struck in June.
Sturridge, 26, has endured over a year of injuries.
His last appearance was in December against Newcastle, after which a hamstring injury has kept the England striker sidelined.

Steve McClaren has changed his mind on selling Cheick Tiote to China, with the Newcastle boss ready to give his midfielder a second chance.
It was feared Tiote, 29, had played his last game for the Toon when he suffered a knee injury earlier this season.
The Shields Gazette claim he was linked with an £4m move to the Chinese Super League.
Henri Saivet was also signed in January as an apparent replacement for the Ivorian.
But after starring in Newcastle's 1-0 win over West Brom last weekend, Toite has convinced McClaren of his worth to the side.
“I hope so," McClaren said when asked if he wanted to keep the player on.

“He’s 100% committed, and if he keeps his composure and passes simply, he’s a very good player.”
Toffees consider Szczesny
Everton want to sign Wojciech Szczesny at the end of the season, according to the Daily Star.
Szczesny, 25, has been on loan from Arsenal at Roma this season.
The Poland international has kept just six clean sheets all season, although he was key to the Rome side's 2-1 win over Sampdoria on Sunday.
Arsenal are unlikely to keep the player past the summer after singing Petr Cech from Chelsea for £10m seven months ago.
Tim Howard, 36, has sat out Everton's last four games and is reportedly eyeing his options, with the MLS a viable destination should he decide to quit Goodison Park
