New York City stars Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo and David Villa unveil new away kit for 2016 MLS season under Patrick Vieira

  • New York City have unveiled their brand new away kit for the new 2016 MLS season as they prepare to embark on a new adventure under Patrick Vieira.
    The vibrant design has taken its inspiration from the colours of the city flag, orange and blue, and was modelled by former England midfielder Frank Lampard.
    Other club stars including captain David Villa, Andrea Pirlo and Kwadwo Poku took to the streets of the five boroughs - Manhattan, The Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island - to give supporters a glimpse of the shirt.

  • Villa, who scored 19 goals during his debut season in the USA, expressed his excitement at the new strip and praised the importance of the New York fans.
    He said: 'I love this jersey. It is a unique design and our team is excited to wear it as we represent our club and our fans on the road. 
  • t was a pleasure to be able to make sure our fans saw the jersey first. They make the club what it is, so it is important for us to make them part of everything we do.'  
    It's a first senior managerial role for Vieira, who left Manchester City's developmental side, to take charge of one-year-old franchise.

But it was a difficult first season in the MLS for New York, as they only managed an eighth place finish in the Eastern Conference and failing to make the play-offs, as they decided to replace Jason Kreis with the former Arsenal midfielder.
But with Pirlo and Lampard being able to get in a full pre-season with the club, New York will be looking to push on in 2016 and vie for the coveted MLS Cup, which was won by the Portland Timbers last year. 
New York will wear the ensemble for the first time in pre-season against the Didier Drogba's Montreal Impact on February 17 before starting the new MLS campaign away to Chicago Fire on March 6.
