Lionel Messi scored the 10,000th goal in Barcelona's history as they beat Sporting Gijon to go six points clear at the top of La Liga. The Argentine's 300th league strike put his side ahead and his second hit the historic team milestone, sandwiching Carlos Castro's equaliser. Messi's second goal, unstoppably rifled home, was all the more remarkable given it was he who had scored Barcelona's 9,000th, against Almeria in March 2010.
