Maria Sharapova is suspended from tennis after failing drugs test: Admits she's been taking recently-banned substance for last ten years
Tennis superstar Maria Sharapova will be provisionally banned from Tennis from March 12 after admitting she failed a drugs test at the 2016 Australian Open (pictured right). The 28-year-old, who has won each grand slam at least once, tested positive for Meldonium, a drug she said she had been taking for 10 years for 'health issues' including a family history of diabetes. The substance was banned from January 1 this year by the World Anti-Doping Agency and the athlete was informed by email of the change, although she admitted she did not look at the message properly. The Russian ace informed the world of the shock news at a pre-arranged press conference held in Los Angeles today (pictured left and centre) and said she 'did not want to end her career this way' and hopes she will play the game again. The Women's Tennis Association said it was 'saddened' at the news but would support any decision made by tennis' anti-doping agencies.
