Manchester United Set to Become First Premier League Team to Reach £1bn in Prize Money
Premier League giants Manchester United can become the first team in Premier League history to reach £1 billion in prize money next season.
United will need to finish in the top eight next season to reach the massive sum after amassing over £870m in prize money since the inception of the Premier League in the 1992/93 season.
The study by Spreadex revealed Arsenal received over £100m in Premier League payments with title winners Leicester City making £93.2m despite finishing ten points above the north London club.
The £100m Arsenal received this season has helped them maintain their second position in regards to prize money won during the Premier League era with the Gunners being £28m behind United, with Liverpool and Chelsea making up the top four respectively.
But the 13-time Premier League champions have dominated during the Premier League era but the past three seasons have seen a sharp drop in performances which is unsurprisingly linked to Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013.
But with three-time Premier League winner Jose Mourinho expected to take the reins in the next couple of days, United and their fans will fully expect the club to make the top eight with no problems at all.
United have not finished lower than seventh in the Premier League era and the former Chelsea boss boasts the best win percentage in the Premier League era with 66% during his time with Chelsea.
